SUBJECT AREA: Medical technology[br]b. 1 June 1926 New York, USA[br]American cardiac surgeon, co-inventor of the Starr-Edwards artificial heart valve.[br]Starr graduated MM from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York.Following residencies at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, Bellevue and the Presbyterian Hospitals, New York, he was appointed Professor and Chief of the Cardiopulmonary Division at the University of Oregon Medical School in 1965.
